Connecticut FSA: Farm Service Agency Seeking Loss Adjusters

Tolland, Conn., April 7, 2022 - The USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) is currently accepting applications from individuals interested in providing contracted crop adjusting services throughout Connecticut for the 2022 crop year. Loss adjuster applications are due Friday, April 29, 2022 and can be submitted in person or by mail to your local county FSA office, or electronically to nathan.wilson@usda.gov.

Loss adjusters preform crop loss and related program services as assigned by FSA. Duties associated with these services include: 1) visiting farms to inspect damaged or destroyed crops; 2) appraising potential crop production; 3) determining and verifying the cause and time of loss; 4) determining farm-stored production; 5) visiting FSA offices and/or farms to preform inspections, reviews or other loss services.

As part of the contract process, Loss Adjusters must pass a required fingerprint background check.

Starting pay for adjusters in training is $15.00/hour. A pay raise to $20.25/hour is contingent on satisfactory completion of a full certification on at least one crop. Equipment necessary to preform loss-adjusting measurements will be provided by FSA. Mileage and per diem will be paid by FSA; however, contracted adjusters are expected to provide their own mode of transportation.

Applications sent by mail must be postmarked by Friday, April 29, 2022. Applications submitted in person must be delivered to an FSA county office by close-of-business, 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2022.
