USDA Designates 11 Texas Counties as Primary Natural Disaster Areas

This Secretarial natural disaster designation allows the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) to extend much-needed emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters through emergency loans. Emergency loans can be used to meet various recovery needs including the replacement of essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganization of a farming operation or the refinance of certain debts. FSA will review the loans based on the extent of losses, security available and repayment ability.

Triggering Disaster #1: Drought

Primary Counties Eligible: Foard and Wilbarger

Contiguous Counties Also Eligible:
Texas: Archer, Baylor, Cottle, Hardeman, King, Knox and Wichita
Oklahoma: Jackson and Tillman

Triggering Disaster #2: Winter storm that occurred during Feb. 10 through Feb. 19, 2021

Application Deadline: Aug. 8, 2022

Primary Counties Eligible: Throckmorton and Young

Contiguous Counties Also Eligible: Archer, Baylor, Haskell, Jack, Knox, Palo Pinto, Shackelford and Stephens

Triggering Disaster #3: Excessive moisture that occurred during May 1 through Sept. 30, 2021

Application Deadline: Aug. 8, 2022

Primary Counties Eligible: Castro, Hale, Jim Wells, Kleberg, Nueces and Willacy

Contiguous Counties Also Eligible:

Triggering Disaster #4: Hurricane Nicholas that occurred on Sept. 14, 2021

Application Deadline: Aug. 8, 2022

Primary County Eligible: Brazoria
