Freedom of Information Act Requests for Farm Service Agency Records
The Farm Service Agency administers farm programs, farm loans, disaster assistance, conservation-related programs, and other services for farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers. You may use the Freedom of Information Act to request existing FSA records that are not already publicly available.
To request FSA records, submit a FOIA request through USDA’s secure electronic FOIA portal at https://securefoia.usda.gov.
Before You Submit a FOIA Request
Before submitting a FOIA request, please check whether the information is already publicly available on USDA or agency websites. If you still need to submit a request, please include as much detail as possible, such as:
- The agency or office likely to have the records;
- A clear description of the records requested;
- Relevant date ranges;
- Program names, policy names, contract numbers, application numbers, case numbers, or other identifying details, if known;
- The state, county, or office location involved, if applicable; and
- Your contact information in case clarification is needed.
FOIA provides access to existing agency records. Agencies are not required to create new records, answer general questions, conduct research, or analyze data in response to a FOIA request.
