USDA Opens People’s Garden Initiative to Gardens Nationwide

Indianapolis, IN, September 16, 2022 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is expanding its People’s Garden Initiative to include additional eligible gardens nationwide.  School gardens, community gardens, urban farms, and small-scale agriculture projects in rural, suburban and urban areas can be recognized as a “People’s Garden” if they register on the USDA website and meet the criteria including benefitting the community, working collaboratively, incorporating conservation practices and educating the public.

Hurricane season is quickly approaching, officially starting June 1 and lasting until November 30. Researchers are predicting that the 2024 hurricane season is going to be extremely active. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) predicts above-normal hurricane activity in 2024, with 17 to 25 named storms.

USDA Partners with Washington to Award Over $7.3 Million to Strengthen Food Supply Chain Infrastructure

WASHINGTON, May 30, 2024 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) today announced it has a cooperative agreement with Washington under the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program (RFSI). Through this agreement, USDA and Washington are working together to offer over $7.3 million in competitive grant funding for projects designed to build resilience across the middle of the supply chain. Washington is accepting applications for this Infrastructure Grant funding through July 15, 2024.

USDA Offers Farm Loans for Farmers Facing Covid-19 Related Challenges

East Lansing, MI, May 07, 2020 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) reminds producers that FSA offers farm ownership and farm operating loans to agricultural producers who may not find success obtaining loans from their traditional financial institutions because of COVID-19. Farmers who cannot obtain commercial credit from a bank can apply for FSA direct or guaranteed loans.
